Helping Haiti: How you can reach out through secular charities
Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 4:59PM Too many people leave their hearts and hands out of the causes that need them the most, especially in times of great tragedy. As individuals, we tend to believe we can’t help, or that if we could the contribution might be too small, unimportant. Nothing could be further from the truth.
The truth is that sometimes great things are the result of millions of small contributions of time, funds, or interest and the spreading of awareness. The world runs on small things, moves on the small things, and the smallest contribution counts.
With that in mind, take a look at the list below and see if there’s a way to help that fits you — then do it. The only meaningless contributions are the ones that aren’t made.
If we were to recommend a charity based on personal experience, it would be Doctors Without Borders. Officially we do not endorse any given charity, but through research we’ve determined that these four non-religious organizations fit the bill for those looking to help Haiti out without getting involved in someone’s agenda. If you have other suggestions for this list, please let us know in the comments section and we’ll add them as appropriate.
